The word yoga means to bind or yoke and is often interpreted as method of discipline to unify the mind and body. Today most people practicing yoga are engaged in asana practice, which is a program of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide physical strength and stamina. This appeals greatly to our culture’s current focus on fitness and appearance. But as students become more adept, the physical stability they attain can lead to nourishment of the mind, transformation of the body and elevation of the spirit.
The foundation of our yoga program is the Classic Bikram series. This foundational series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises is designed to scientifically warm, stretch and strengthen your muscles, ligaments and tendons. It is a challenging, exciting, and vigorous 90-minute series created for everyone. We also offer a mix of related class formats such as the Absolute Hot Yoga series, our Classic Plus Intermediate progression, and some Yin Yoga classes that will enhance your regular practice.
Practicing yoga in our warm or appropriately heated studio warms the muscles and facilitates working more deeply and safely in the various poses. This in turn helps to open the tissue for stretching and helps to prevent injuries. The heat also improves circulation and promotes sweating which helps in the elimination of toxins.
